The Backlit Dragon

We experimented by using the light from the projector to back light the dragon, who we placed behind a piece of tracing paper.

Here we added the flames we used in our other experiments.

Evaluation

This experimentation has combined the use of light (as in our shadow animations) and the paper cut outs but by filming the actually piece rather than its shadow we have retained the sharp defined lines and the bold solidity of colour. To me this makes use of the best of both techniques. These however are only photographs we did not try to animate these due to time restraints and this might be a problem. We would need a large piece of tracing paper (not scrap as here) and we would need to construct some kind of frame so it didn't move. We would also need a way to stick the cut outs onto the paper (maybe blutac), something that could be attached and reattached again and again to create movement. The use of coloured tissue paper again works really well here where the light is able to shine through it.
